The Blidinje Nature Park

The Blidinje Nature Park is located on a large area, covering the area of the mountain chains Čvrsnica, Čabulja and Vran and the municipalities of Posušje, Tomislavgrad, Prozor-Rama and Jablanica. Due to its favorable geomorphologic features and beautiful landscapes, the area has been designated as a nature park in March 30th 1995.

This park is a unique natural phenomenon, which includes many endemic species of flora and fauna with a lot of sources of clean, drinkable water. It is known as one of the largest habitats of endemic white bark pine.

Blidinje Nature Park was named after Blidinje Lake, which is located at the bottom of the place called Dugo Polje (long field) at a height of 1184 meters above sea level. Lake area is about six square kilometers with a relatively shallow depth, while the water in the lake comes primarily from the surrounding mountains Vran and Čvrsnica with spring when the snow melts. The most famous landmarks of this special park, along the lake, are rich archaeological sites, particularly necropolis with 150 tombstones in Dugo polje, which has been designated as National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in January, 2004.

Among cultural places worth mentioning is the beautiful Franciscan monastery with the art gallery, which is located in the village Masna Luka. The beautiful mountain Čvrsnica and a special geomorphologic reserve Diva Grabovica within the ensemble and beautiful canyon of Grabovica River is also worth visiting.

The famous shrine called Kedžara, which is known for the grave of Luka Grabovac’s beautiful daughter Diva from Rama, is also located in Blidinje Nature Park. The story about Diva goes like this: Muslim beg Kopčič falls in love with Diva and proposes to her, but she do not say yes, so she runs away from her home and hides in Dugo Polje to preserve her purity and religion, since Diva was Christian. Unfortunately, the beg manages to find her with the spy’s held and eventually kills her. Many pilgrims, especially young girls visit Diva’s grave every year in July. This is the perfect opportunity to visit this park in summer.

But if you find yourself here in winter, you can go skiing in the modern ski center, which is also located in the park and which is favorite destination for the visitors from Herzegovina and Dalmatia. The Ski Centre has a four-seated chair lift installed with capacity of 1942 U / h with average slope paths from 29.08 %, and lower lift popularly called “baby lift”, which is suitable for beginners and children.
